Unfortunately, most people don’t recognize that the brain, the most powerful piece of equipment you’ve got going for you, needs regular exercise just like your muscles. And just like your muscles, if your brain doesn’t get to go out and play every now and then, it begins to atrophy.
Although you might think that the brain works all the time so what’s the point of exercising it, when we talk about exercise, we’re talking about engaging in those things like meditation that help your little meaning maker to rest, relax, and rejuvenate.
Checkout Joe Clark’s recent Intent post on how to keep your brain fit. According to Clark, important is to make sure and minimize the amount of television you watch while also giving yourself ample time to reflect (as opposed to think).
1. Minimize Television Watching
3. Read Challenging Books
4. Early to Bed, Early to Rise
5. Take Time to Reflect — Spending some time alone in reflection gives you a chance to organize your thoughts and prioritize your responsibilities. Afterwards, you’ll have a better understanding of what’s important and what isn’t.
