Is Yoga Good For The Heart?

Meditation | Yoga And Meditation Promotes Harmony And Balance In The HeartChalk another one up for the positive benefits of yoga. And if we’re discussing yoga, we might as well be discussing the chakras. This post from Jen Hanover from Surrey Now provides a good reminder of how an intentional yoga practice is not only beneficial on the physical level but also helpful when it comes to your energy system.

Chakras or energy centers are located all over your central nervous system and along your spine. It is in these center where an individual receives and expresses their life force energy, also known as prana. According to Hanover, here’s why yoga is an especially good practice for the heart:

…The heart chakra, or Anahata, is located in the chest area, and symbolizes the consciousness of love, empathy, selflessness and devotion. By “opening” the heart chakra, we are inspired to love others, be compassionate, altruistic and accepting of things as they are.

…So how can yoga help you open your heart chakra? By increasing the flow of circulation with yoga postures, your blood gets moving and this can start to “flush” emotional blocks. The back-bending postures will help to open your chest, and taking deep breaths into your heart region with love and intention can essentially breathe life into your emotional well-being. Anahata is also connected to letting go of fear, which can inspire you to live a life of purpose.
